Mac’s six month pediatrician appointment
Posted by schindeebaby in Uncategorized on February 28, 2012
Today we took Cormac in for his 6 month doctor visit. In a nutshell, he’s still a healthy little guy! Joy’s nickname of Chuggy Bear appears to be a bit unfounded, though – he’s only in the 25th percentile for weight (15 lb 12 oz). He is 60th percentile for height at 26.5 inches. And, in true Schindler/Kramer tradition, 95th percentile for head size! Like his big sis, he has lots of brains in that little (it’s a relative term!) noggin of his.

Dear Chuggy Bear,
I’m sorry, I’m sure that nickname will be embarrassing by the time you’re old enough to read this. But it suits you to a T and you always get a gummy grin when we call you Chuggy, so it’s stuck. And you are kind of chuggy…you’re a tubby, little dimpled baby and you are so sweet and roly poly.

I have a feeling that all that padding you have won’t last too much longer. You have become very active. Just the other day you rolled across the living room floor when I was in the other room. You’re also working very hard on sitting up by yourself. Today you sat for 3 seconds before toppling over. Soon, you’ll be sitting up, trying to devise ways to crawl.

You also LOVE your jumperoo. Other than in your crib and in my arms, that’s where you spend most of your time. You can really get going in it, bouncing and playing. You really like the little book pages. You love to flip through them and slam them shut, relishing in the clicking noise they make.

You’re very busy. You don’t like to be in one place very long. In your perfect world, I would carry you, facing out, around the house letting you look at every item on every shelf and letting you put choice objects in your mouth. That would be Baby Mac Heaven! You always seem to be chewing or sucking on something. If you don’t have your ba (pacifier) or a good toy, your fingers work just fine.

This month has had a couple of firsts for you. You met our friends Anna, Brett and Mitch for the first time. You must have charmed Brett because I have a ton of pictures of the two of you together and your both smiling in all of them.

You also rode in a shopping cart seat like a big boy for the first time. I’m glad we were at Costco for your first seat ride because they have double carts and you were able to share the moment with Daphne. She was very proud of you and she really liked pointing things out in the store. That girl can spot a sample stand from a mile away!

The big “first” though was food! You had your first taste of something besides breast milk. You were very eager to try food, so we started last week. In the past 12 days or so, you’ve tried sweet potatoes, carrots and peas. You really like the sweet potatoes and carrots. I think you could do without the peas. You eat them, but about 75% ends up getting spit back out. You started shrieking at me tonight and I couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Nothing I did worked. Finally, I put you in your high chair and you got all smiley. When I brought out your little bowl of food, you started reaching and cooing. You wanted to eat like a big boy!

Your other two “firsts” were your first race (Well, actually, it was Daddy’s half marathon. But you cheered him on, so that counts.) and your first time in the jumperoo wearing a sun hat. Okay, so I’m stretching the “first” thing a bit…really I just wanted to include these pictures.

You and Daphne are still best buddies. She reads to you, brings you toys, holds you, and helps feed you when I’m gone. She snuggles you, entertains you and talks to you and about you constantly. You think she’s very funny and you babble back to her. You love each other very much and nothing in the whole world makes me happier than seeing the love you two share.

Of course, it’s not all peaches and ice cream. Today she was playing fetch with Pilot inside the house (not an inside game, unfortunately) and you got smacked in the head with a dog bone. You were very upset and so was she. You were hurting and she was devastated that she hurt you. She brought you a Scooby Doo bandage and then insisted on singing to you and snuggling with you. Getting hurt is just part of having siblings and you were okay after awhile. You kept trying to tell her that you were fine, but man, sometimes big sisters don’t take a hint!

Cormac, you are the happiest, most easy going baby. You’re such a joy to be around. Daddy and I love you so very much and we love watching you grow into such and interesting person.

Happy half birthday, Little Guy.
Love,
Mama

Almost 6 months old, and he seemed ready for something besides breast milk… creamed sweet potatoes it is!
